THE Port of New York and New Jersey set a new all-time record with 658,708 TEU, a year-on-year increase of 11.9 per cent in October.
Import boxes were up by 11.1 per cent in October 2018 compared to the previous year and exports increased by 7.9 per cent in October 2018 compared to October 2017. Export empties were up 16.7 per cent to 187,027 TEU.
For the period of January through October 2018, the port exported loads were up 6.9 per cent to 1,245,438 TEU. Year-to-date export empties were up 5.7 per cent to 1,670,479 TEU.
October 2018 marked the eighth consecutive month of rail volume above 50,000 containers. Rail volume increased 11.7 per cent from the previous year's October figure, totalling 57,197 containers for October 2018. Rail volume for January through October 2018 rose by 14.5 per cent when compared to the same period of 2017.
Vehicles moved through the Port of New York and New Jersey totalled 50,186 in October, a decrease of 1.9 per cent year on year.
