Freight Rates for US West Coast & US East Coast Continue to Rise, Hitting Above USD 11,200?

Release time: 2026-08-11   Browsing:176次
Driven by watershortage restrictions in the Panama Canal, the Red Sea crisis and supplychain disruptions, freight rates on NorthAmericabound lanes have trended upward. The SCFI stood at 3 276.14 points on 7 August, up 2.19 % weekonweek and marking two consecutive weeks of gains. Multiple carriers have announced FAK rate hikes for August. CMA CGM plans to lift rates to USD 8 000 per FEU for US West Coast and USD 11 200 per FEU for US East Coast effective 15 August. Nevertheless, actual transaction rates remain materially below the published tariff levels, casting uncertainty over full implementation of the increases. Carriers have relaxed the ratio between longterm contracts and FAK spot rates, which may pull down concluded rates. Multiple peakseason surcharges have been added to USlane longterm contracts. Tight supply underpins freight rates, while geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz constitute a major risk variable. By contrast, capacity additions on Europebound lanes have pushed freight rates down gradually, featuring “soft demand offset by riskdriven support”. The overall containershipping market shows clear divergence. Typhoons, port operations and geopolitical risks deserve continued monitoring.
