Waking up to breaking news: Zero merchant vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz

Release time: 2026-07-21   Browsing:140次
On July 19, sources within the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran stated that vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped to zero, and the waterway will remain closed. This move has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, the critical global shipping chokepoint. Iran will deny all transit approvals until the United States ceases its "provocative acts".The United States has denied the claims. On the same day, U.S. Energy Secretary Wright asserted that shipping through the strait is "absolutely normal" and the U.S. will guarantee unimpeded oil shipments.
Meanwhile, the risk of spillover conflict across the Persian Gulf has escalated sharply. The militaries of Kuwait and Bahrain both reported intercepting missile and drone attacks launched by Iran, describing the strikes as retaliation for prior U.S. airstrikes. Iran maintained that the targets of the attacks were U.S. ammunition depots and Patriot air defense systems located on Kuwaiti territory.
