Freight Rates Surge for 10th Consecutive Week, Reaching Near Four-Year High

Release time: 2026-07-07   Browsing:256次
The global container shipping market continues to surge. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) has climbed for the tenth straight week to 3,326.87 points, hitting a near four-year high. The rally is primarily led by trans-Pacific routes, with rates to the US East Coast jumping 12.35% and to the US West Coast surging 9.28%. In contrast, gains on European routes have narrowed significantly (Europe up only 0.54%), while most other routes are in decline.
Although US rates remain at historic highs, signs of softening are emerging: new capacity is being deployed, cabin space tightness is easing, and the gap between long-term contract rates and spot rates remains wide, suggesting the US West Coast may be the first to see a correction. European routes face even greater downward pressure due to ample capacity, making it difficult for planned mid-July rate hikes to fully materialize. Industry insiders note that while the overall market is supported by the Q3 peak season, Red Sea tensions, and structural shortages of vessels and space—which should keep rates elevated—the divergence between trade lanes will likely intensify.
