Mexican drug lord Oseguera was killed in a military raid, and his followers retaliated, causing riots in at least six states. Mobs set fire to vehicles, blocked highways, and some areas were paralyzed. The country's largest container port, Manzanillo, temporarily halted operations. The Mexican Defense Ministry stated that Oseguera was the leader of the "New Generation" drug cartel in Jalisco and was killed in a shootout with the military. Six gunmen were also killed and three soldiers were injured. After the news of Oseguera's death spread, members of the drug cartel carried out acts of vandalism in multiple locations. On February 22nd, the important port of Manzanillo temporarily suspended operations due to security concerns. The port authority announced the suspension of vessel traffic and the closure of the port gates. That night, the Mexican Navy said the port had reopened under extremely high security measures, with enhanced protection at all terminals. Due to the initial closure and precautionary measures, it is expected that there will be a backlog of ships and delays in loading and unloading. It will take time to clear the backlog, and the supply chain will be affected.
