In the early hours of July 6th, the Houthi armed forces attacked the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel Magic Seas with a suicide remote-controlled speedboat approximately 94 kilometers southwest of Hodeidah in the Red Sea, causing severe damage to the ship's hull. According to Yemeni sources, Houthi militants approached the vessel in a speedboat and demanded it change course to sail to Hodeidah Port, which is under Houthi control. The merchant ship refused, leading to a brief exchange of fire with the Houthis. It is reported that no crew members were injured, but the ship was carrying a large quantity of chemical fertilizers, and its hull was damaged with a fire breaking out.
Foreign media reported that around 2:50 p.m. the same day, there were reports that the crew had abandoned the ship, which was on fire and sinking.
