Congestion is intensifying, causing severe delays for ships!
As the restructuring of alliances continues to progress, coupled with capacity constraints at Canada's inland railway hubs and declining reliability of liner shipping schedules, the Port of Vancouver, Canada's west coast gateway, is facing severe challenges of increasing congestion. It is expected that this situation will further deteriorate in the coming weeks. A number of ships, including Maersk, MSC, and Yang Ming, have already experienced delays.
Currently, approximately 25% of the ships in the port are waiting for berths, some of which have been waiting for a long time, thereby pushing up the average waiting time for berths overall. These severely delayed ships often belong to a part of the alliance service routes that have been experiencing long delays and are gradually being phased out.
