South Africa has temporarily closed Mozambique's main border and the ports of Lebombo and Maputo due to public safety concerns. This move is expected to have further impacts on areas already facing logistics challenges, as state-owned ports and railway companies are unable to provide sufficient services, and the flow of goods and commodities will also be restricted.
BMA Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato suggests that the freight industry should choose alternative routes to Mozambique as much as possible until the situation stabilizes, and stakeholders should suspend travel through the port until further notice. In addition, an official revealed that as of the morning of November 6th, Maputo Port has not received any cargo, further confirming the situation of logistics obstruction.
