Emergency! Two major ports are paralyzed! Ships are seriously delayed, and a large amount of cargo is backed up.
India's west coast ports, especially Mundra port, are experiencing operational disruptions due to surging cargo volumes and extreme weather. Ships are delayed, cargo is overstocked, and there is a serious delay. Affected by the persistent weather, it is expected that recovery may take a week. To deal with the current predicament, Mundra port is said to prioritize the berthing of ships with export-oriented cargo, in order to alleviate some of the pressure.
The problems at Mundra port have also triggered a chain reaction in the regional supply chain. The port of Nhava Sheva is currently facing serious traffic congestion problems, with exports blocked and imports delayed, putting huge pressure on transport companies and drivers. Despite this, the cargo volume at Nhava Sheva port continues to grow, reaching 639,336 TEU in August, setting a new monthly throughput record.
