On Sunday, August 4th, Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack on the cargo ship "MV Groton" in the Gulf of Aden. The vessel is operated by CMA CGM Charter. This is the first time that the Houthis have publicly claimed responsibility for such actions since Israel's retaliatory airstrikes against the Houthis on 20 July.
According to previous Reuters reports, UKMTO and United Kingdom maritime security company Ambrey both confirmed that merchant ships were hit by missile attacks about 125 nautical miles east of the port of Aden in Yemen. It is worth noting that there were initial reports that the ship could have encountered an unidentified explosive object and caused a fire, but subsequent information corrected this.
